Description:
What is this?

This page features a random IP address creation tool that can create both IPv4 and the newer IPv6 IP address.

An IP address is a network's “Address” on the internet, it gives a network a unique identifier on the internet to which other networks connected to the internet can send data to and receive data from. IP addresses are assigned by internet service providers to their customers and can be either static or dynamic IPs. Static IP addresses are assigned to a customer and remain the same for the life of the service, surviving power outages and changes in infrastructure. Dynamic IPs typically only last a few days to a few weeks and will be lost if the customer loses power, if they lose then the customer will automatically be issued with a new dynamic IP.

IPv4 (Internet Protocol version 4) is a core internet protocol and routes most of the internet traffic. It uses a 32-bit address space and is a number consisting of a set of four octets e.g. 100.200.300.400. There is a hard limit on the number of IPv4 addresses that can be issued, that number being roughly 270 million addresses. Due to this limitation, IPv6 is now becoming the standard for IP addresses which is a hex value represented by eight groups of four hexadecimal digits which are separated by the colon character.

How to use this generator?

Select the type of IP address you want to create, either IPv4 or IPv6. Next, choose how many IPs you want to create. Lastly, choose the format you want the results to be presented in. By default this is ‘Plain Text’ which is the most readable and easy to use format, or select ‘JSON’ if you want the results in a format useful for programming.
